Group Agreement – Code of Conduct for the Greek Guys Group

New members who are considering attending the Monday support meetings (every third Monday of every month) are encouraged to read the Code of Conduct for the Greek Guys Group.

The Code of Conduct protects the privacy of all members and encourages a respectful, honest and confidential support meeting.

What is this all about?

As the result of the committee meeting in September 2006, committee members who attended the meeting revised the Group Agreement – Code of Conduct for the Greek and Gay Group Melbourne, for gay and bisexual men from a hellenic background.

Process:

The meeting held at September 2006 focussed on the re-development of the Group Agreement – Code of Conduct. Committee members who attended this meeting brainstormed, discussed, evaluated and drafted a set of guidelines that all group members are asked to adhere to. These guidelines aim to empower every member to assert themselves in maintaining a safe and supportive environment during the meetings.

Review:

The Group Agreement – Code of Conduct for the Greek & Gay Group will be reviewed annually to meet the ongoing needs of its members and the need of a safe and supportive environment in which members can meet.

Group Agreement – Code of Conduct for the Greek Guys Group

Please carefully read the following Code of Conduct rules:

  1. This is a support meeting for GAY or BISEXUAL MEN (18 years +) from a HELLENIC background.
  2. Be punctual, and if not, PLEASE DON’T INTERRUPT the meeting when you come into the room.
  3. Please SWITCH OFF YOUR MOBILE and do not use your mobile while you are in the support meeting.If you have to take a call, quietly go outside.
  4. We will use NAME TAGS by at least committee members and other members who wish to use them.
  5. Strict CONFIDENTIALITY and FULL DISCRETION is always required – you must keep what is discussed in the group within the group.
  6. DONT OUT ME! Please remember that not every member is Out.
  7. The views of the individual are not the views of the group.
  8. BE RESPECTFUL of people’s opinions.
  9. BE RESPECTFUL of people’s level of active participation.
  10. Challenge the issue and NOT the person.
  11. WELCOME people’s contributions to the Group.
  12. DON’T INTERROGATE new members; please DON’T BOMBARD people with questions.
  13. NO SOLICITING of phone numbers or personal details in support meetings. People caught doing so will be dealt with by the committee.Our support group is not a pick-up group.
  14. If you wish to obtain some members’ phone numbers or other details, you must ask a committee member first.
  15. Members will not offer to take members home after a support meeting. If a member has no means of transport, then committee members will help out and find the best way.
  16. Please do not get offended if some members do you wish to be acknowledged outside of the group.
  17. BE MINDFUL of language skills in the Group.
  18. BE RESPECTFUL of personal Hellenic Cultural Backgrounds.
  19. RELAX, ENJOY AND HAVE FUN!!!

NOTE – MEMBERS WHO BREACH AND VIOLATE THESE RULES WILL BE DEALT WITH BY THE COMMITEE.

 

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually by the Committee.
